La inspiración: La leyenda cuenta que un diplomático británico enviado como parte de una delegación comercial a China en 1834 por el segundo Earl Grey, salvó la vida del hijo de un mandarín que se estaba ahogando. El agradecido mandarín le dio al diplomático una receta de una mezcla de té para presentársela al conde. El segundo Conde Grey se lo pasó a su comerciante de té, quien utilizó la receta para recrear la mezcla para uso privado del Conde. El té fue tan bien recibido entre los invitados del conde que empezaron a preguntar dónde podían comprarlo. El conde le puso su nombre y el resto es historia.
