"I have pretty good experiences with real life saffron (mostly paired with cardamom in delicious food!) but something about this isn’t doing it for me. It’s harsh on the nose and doesn’t smell luxurious or elegant like I’d associate with saffron. I agree with others this would probably be best for blending and I don’t enjoy this on its own."

"On its own, I get the sharp, dry, bitter earthy touch of turmeric and the funky note of methi/curry leaf but just as I was worrying it would be too strongly curry scented, then it glides into a sweet, warm, starchy coziness that is unmistakably buttered saffron basmati rice. I took a chance because saffron is a note listed in some of my favorite perfumes, evening edged in gold and gilded lily. Even more surprising is the versatility with which you can blend saffron to create a rounded, cozy note if the perfume is too sharp. I think I was able to recreate what I was looking for in Rice Flower, which fell short of my expectations. I blended Kitten Fur, Saffron, and Frangipani. Utterly amazing recreation of the sunflower and rice water bath oil my aunt used when she did spa day for my sister and I. Core memory relived! Honestly I'm going to have to order more of each of those scents in the bath oils and blend them together. Heavenly! You will be amazed at what you can create with Saffron! I ordered the 1/2 oz humongous cologne splash and it's perfect if you don't care for a spray. You need to apply a lot to get it to last. Thank you Demeter for the super fast 2 day shipping and great packaging with the storage boxes to organize all the colognes! Also the gifts I received with my $100+ order were a full 4oz pick me up cologne spray bottle of Cherry Blossom and Wet Garden 1/2oz roll-on perfume oil! Love them!"

"I suppose because I think saffron is the anther of a crocus flower, I figure the sweet musky smell is that, but I associate it with Indian food, like Masala sauces. Minus the curry."
BLEND IT, BABY
"On it's own this scent is odd. It is soapy yet leathery. I remember spraying it in the air at my favorite second hand shop feeling intoxicated. Flash forward 10 years and it is still perplexing. I highly recommend it just as a room spray. But if you are looking to create a perfume it is a solid base for masculine leaning fragrance. Blend it with beeswax!!"

"for years, I have sampled the demeter catalog, hoping to find one that spoke to me. none was quite right. in fact, just today I was telling someone that I wished I could wear mahogany but it was just too masculine. then my little bottle of saffron arrived in the mail. my immediate reaction was "oh my god!" I found it! it's warm, spicy, and inviting, without smelling like I've just rubbed up against my boyfriend. it would pair wonderfully with a sweet fruit scent, but I love it as is."

"Saffron belongs in a scent family with Fig Leaf and Giant Sequoia, but Saffron is the more masculine version. Really difficult to describe, but maybe vaguely wood-like (like a light wood, not dark), a little leathery, and subtly sweet. It's sexy and young and exotic. It's name and description don't make it seem like what it really smells like, but i guess they had a hard time describing it, too. Maybe it shares something with Ginseng, as well? Easily works for a woman, too, but I'd prefer it on my guy..."

"I thought this would be a funny purchase but I was curious anyway, so I bought it. I was hugely surprised when turned out to be a go-to scent. It's just unique, it doesn't remind me of any other perfume. It does smell spicy, but it's absolutely wearable. I usually look like a little girl, but this fragrance makes me feel really distinguished without smelling like mainstream expensive perfume. Also, I layers really well with other scents. Lovely."
